THE EXPERIENCE
A dark night in the shadow of volcanoes. You’re not sure where you wandered off the path, but you should have been back to your hotel by now. With your flashlight long dead, you have been blindly groping your way through the forest, hoping to avoid an encounter with predators.
Through a thick hedge you stumble onto a cleared area. It is an ancient village, with crumbling structures lining either side of a roughly cobbled street. There is not a soul to be seen, but you can hear faint whispers carried on the wind.
Squinting through the darkness, you notice a fountain at the far end of the road, smooth and gleaming as if it were brand new. The whispers get louder with every step down the crumbling path. You walk to the rim of the fountain, and now the voices are thunderously loud.
A beautiful girl slowly rises from the water, the crystal liquid cascading down her body into the black pool below. The chorus of voices stops abruptly, the girl’s glowing green eyes meet yours and she whispers softly, “Drink.”
